Kankeshwar Temple

13 Kms from Alibaug in Northeast direction is, this very famous Shiv temple on a 900 ft. high hill. 700 steps climb on well paved stairs, which takes around one hour to reach the top. Landmarks along the route are tombs of Mohan Giri and Balgiri, Nagoba Rest, Jambhali Plateau, God’s stair, Gaymandir etc. The fatigue of the uphill climb vanishes the moment one enters the scenic temple premises. It comprises of various small temples of Sri Paleshwar, Sri Hanuman, Sri Balram, Shri Krishna and Lord Ganesh.

The special attraction is an ancient sweet water tank enclosed in traditional structure of red stone. The ancient temple was built by Raja Ramdeorai Yadav. The height of the Shiv temple is 54 ft. The front gate has Lion sculpture on both sides with traditional lamp-pillars (Deepmaal) in front. The 4 ft. long ‘Pindi’ of Lord Shiv is Silver cladded. The premises also include Nagaar-khana, BheemKunda, a garden for flowers to be offered to the Lord, Sri Ram Ganesh temple and Gomukha. Every year, Kartik Poornima in Hindu calender is the day of fair. On this hill, variety of herbs are found.

Shri Datt Temple (Bhovali, Chaul)

18 kms from Alibaug on Alibaug-Revdanda road, this is another very famous hill shrine. One has to climb around 700 stairs to reach this shrine surrounded by thick forest.

Important landmarks are Swami Samartha Muth, Sadhana Kutir, Hare Ram Baba Dhuni Mandir, Audumbar Muth, Mai JankibaiMuth.

Birla Temple, Salav

20 kms. from Alibaug, across Revdanda Bridge, to the left is this beautiful temple within the JSW Ispat premises. The towering dome in exquisite white granite is visible from a long distance. Situated on a small hillock, you can walk up to the temple over well-paved stairs.

The surroundings of the temple are made up of a well-planned garden and colourful fountains. The prayer hall is open on all sides and the roof is made of transparent Polymorph sheet. The temple has idols of Shree Radha-Krishnna, Shree Shiv-Parvati, Goddess Druga and Lord Surya. Life-size statue of Late Aditya Birla stands in the garden. The pooja and prayer can be attended at 9am and 7.15pm every day. Entry into the temple premises is open from 6am to 11.30am and 4.30pm to 9.pm only. ST buses, 3 or 6 seaters rikshaws are available from Alibaug and 3 or 6 seaters can be hired from Revdanda Bus Stop.

Shitaladevi Temple, Chaul

On Alibaug-Revdanda Road, 14kms away from Alibaug is Chaul and from there one can hire an auto rickshaw to reach this ancient temple-Originally it was built with a tiled roof and wooden structure.

In 1990, it was renovated into a modern structure. It is a greatly revered shrine.

Shri Siddhivinayak Temple, Nandgaon

Believers feel that a ‘Darshan’ of Lord Ganesh here lends finale to the ‘Asthtavinayak’ pilgrimage.

A grand festival takes place every year on ‘Maghi Chaturthi’ day and another traditionally auspicious day for ‘Darshan’ is ‘Sankashti Chaturthi’ every month.

Rameshwar Temple, Chaul

Rameshwar Mandir is a temple located in Chaul, It is a very ancient temple of Lord Shiva. Being an ancient temple it has completed 275 years. The Chaul region is known for its temples. There are 360 temples in Chaul and also 360 lakes or large ponds called as POKHARAN in MARATHI. One Rameshwar Das Mandir is in Basai, Rajasthan. The date of construction is not known, but the temple has been renovated several times. In the front there is a large pond.

The Mandir has three tanks (called kund in Marathi): parjanyakund, agnikund, and wayukund, representing three elements of nature-Rain, fire, and air.

Shree Gajanan Maharaj Temple, Saswane

Shegaon has acquired fame as a pilgrimage center because Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj lived there. Hindus consider Gajanan Maharaj a saint with miraculous powers. The origins of Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj are untraceable in history. Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj took “Samadhi” at Shegaon. Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj Temple is built on the Samadhi of Gajanan Maharaj at Shegaon. Sant Gajanan Maharaj Sansthan is the biggest temple trust in the Vidarbha region and is so called as “Pandharpur of Vidarbha”. It attracts pilgrims from all over Maharashtra.

The Prakat Din is celebrated by large no of devotees every year.

Goteshwar Temple, Saswane

A shivatemple constuted on the bank of Goteshwar lake in Dhokavade about 3 Km from ‘Maher ‘. It is very good place for morning walk. Various migrated birds can be seen in rainy season.
